poor attitude

I've been to this locations couple of times. The front desk young man always has bad attitude and shows no respect at all.

Awful

I put my child in this program and returned early one day only to find him roaming around the building unsupervised. I don't trust the quality of childcare at this YMCA. When I complained to the director I was treated in a very harsh and arrogant manner by him.

Horrible management, especially Erica Catania the director!!!

Terrible place to work. Useless directors and they cheat you on your pay every week. Never pay you all your hours. Bad teachers stay, good teachers leave. Lots of favoritism. The main director is useless and doesn't know how to manager the daycare. Schedules are always messed up. I am glad I do not work there anymore. Good place for kids but terrible work place.

Very nice

This Y is being remodeled and has a lot of new equipment. I have not taken any of the classes but they seem to be attended well. the people who monitor the exercise room are very nice and willing to help anyone who needs help. It is very clean, a new floor was installed in October and is easy to move on. It has an easy check in. But the most important thing is the friendliness of the personell.

not so family friendly

This YMCA is not family friendly. They charge extra money for EVERY children's program, do not offer a youth center and do not provide a reasonable amount of childcare for parents who would like to use their facilities. They only have childcare Tuesday and Thursday mornings. They also have very limited free swim for families. Isn't the YMCA supposed to be geared towards FAMILY? Not this one!!!!

Think Imperial Empire

The above address is incorrect. On April 16th 2012, the Pine Street YMCA became the Thomas E. Hannah Family YMCA. The facility is brand new and gorgeous. The wellness director runs an awesome selection of classes and the equipment is top notch. Where this facility falters is how it's run. The staff are always treated awfully and looked down upon by the administration staff. The CEO is the most socially inept person on the planet. He passes members in the hall and barely speaks. Since this is the largest non profit in our county, I have a problem with that. But...if you can walk in there and get passed all that and don't have to deal with Darth Vader and his tyranny then this might be the place for you. You may want to look at the other 5 fitness facilities within 2 miles of the Y. They're MUCH cheaper and don't ask you for money for their annual campaign.

Horrible staff team

When your co-staffs are in disagreement with your work style, prepare to be left out of everything and most likely hear a rumor going around. Monroe and Southwest are honestly the worst sites I have ever been too and even if I live near, I would step foot in spencerport before I step in that waste of time

I have been going to the Mesa Y for many years. I take the classes 4-5 days a week, including water fitness in the summer. All of the instructors are professional, personable, and challenging. I love the Mesa Y and all of the staff there.

Poor day care availability

I called to set my 2 year old up for their daycare program. I work Monday thru Friday 8-5 but my husband works on a swing shift, which means that one week he works Monday, Thursday and Friday and then he next week he works Tuesday and Wednesday and it rotates like that all year. We have his schedule for the whole year so I wanted to sign him up for their three day a week option and was told that they couldn't accommodate my schedule because he wouldn't be going the same three days every week. I'm actually really surprised and disappointed that they weren't willing to work with me, especially because both me and my son are members.

The worst!

This ymca is a joke! First they charge you for classes on top of membership dues! Second they try to sell you juice plus the second you walk though the door. I went there for a couple weeks and left because they harass you so bad. And if you don't take their classes and kiss the woman's ass who runs the classes or buy their juice they treat you like crap. Stay away huge scam going in at this place. Went to fitness factory instead!

This is a really fun and cool ymca as far as basketball. Im not sure about the rest but only because i just play basketball only so i cant diss the rest. And u dont have to worry about fights and things like that. Which is pretty cool compared to parks outside. I also like it because its air conditioning and it has a little playground outside as well for kids. Its fairly expensive but ita worth it if u like sports and workouts.

great place for seniors

They have great exercise equipment and helpful staff. The huge indoor and outdoor swimming pools are well maintained. There is a Subway on site and seniors get a discount. All kinds of exercise classes. It is a family Y so its great to see all generations enjoying the place. Before noon they even serve great coffee. I am a snowbird and it the most uplifting place I go in Hollywood.

Sauna & Steam Room

Sauna & Steam Room hours of operation, should not be linked to the swimming pool hours of operation. Sauna & Steam room should be available to the members regardless if swimming pool is open or closed. Swimming pool usually closes 1 hour before the facility closes at night ( which in itself it is a problem, because I would like to swim at 9pm to 9:45pm) Closing the Sauna and Steam room in the same time as the swimming pool is a very bad action, which affect me directly since I work out in the evening. I have to mention that when YMCA has opened the schedule was very good allowing members to use the sauna and steam room independent of the pool schedule, which back then was closing at 9:30pm. Things have been much better before compared to today quality of the YMCA Avery, in Plainfield IL

Review for: YMCA in Newark, NJ

The Y is a great place to get in shape!

In winter, especially, we can get very lazy. The sendentary life style, fueled by the cold weather, overwhelms us, at times, and we make consistent excuses for NOT getting our bodies in shape. The Newark Y is a great place to join classes and exercise, Or, we can work out independently as well. If we continue to make excuses, we hurt only ourselves. So, if we take the first step, and enter the pleasant atmosphere of the Newark Y, we will be okay. It's not a place for the elite, those who are imagining that it is a multi-million dollar health spa. It is a basic workout place, but we can still be challenged there. Those with their noses on the lightbulbs will have to shell out lots more money for fancy spas. A show place doesn't guarantee that one will get into prime shape! A simple routine workout on an exercise bike or a rowing machine can connect us with a healthier body. Peace to all who enter the Newark Y. They are on a good mission there.

Complaint

First off, this place is huge! Which is great, but very difficult finding your way around. The staff is very rude. I came to the front desk and the lady looked at us very oddly. She then proceeded to say I had to pay an extra $7.00 for my daughter and I go in. Which is fine, no big deal. But then my other daughter, who is too short to reach her head over the counter, was standing there. The lady then asked if "he" was also with us. She was even wearing pink and a Hello Kitty shirt. there were many other rude people and staff members also, and many places you had to be at least 18, so not very "kid-friendly" it was just a bad experience.
